WTF is ICT?

Today, at class we were challenged to pick a global issue to talk about and one of my classmates came up with this word that I had no idea I was so involved.

The wiki definition for Information and Communication Technology is “an extended term for IT, which stresses the role of unified communications”. Technologies are helping us to keep in touch with our family and friends, check the weather forecast – not so precisely yet helpful, make the economy grow and so on. So, why is it a global issue?

Although it’s 2017, only 48% of the world is connected to the Internet and the majority are teenagers and young adults living in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

If we check the literacy rates, we are going to see the reflection of the same old problem: developed countries have more resources to build the bridges to information.
